Virtual Environmental and Humanitarian Adviser Tool – (VEHA Tool) is a tool

% of population with hygiene and health practices which demonstrate understanding of environmental determinants of health
% of population with hygiene and health practices which demonstrate non environmentally polluting behaviours
% of population with hygiene and health practices which demonstrate waste minimisation
Does your intervention consider the environmental determinants of health in the local area in the provision of advice, health promotion, surveillance, coordination, or training?
Have you incorporated environmental health / environmental sanitation messages in your health and hygiene promotion and the means by which people of concern can act on those messages as per Sphere WASH Standards 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 5.1, 5.2 and 5.3?
Have you planned to test your health and hygiene messages to avoid any unintended community response?
Have litter and waste resulting from sensitisation tools, information materials, and educational “props” been taken into consideration while defining your health promotion campaign?
Have you promoted sustainable waste management in your health information campaigns?
Include considerations such as environmental health practices and environmental determinants of health, acceptance (cultural/type of NFIs) into your health assessment and messages, and monitoring relevancy
Take into account environmental considerations in hygiene practices (often closely linked with health)
Include test for health promotion messages into your awareness campaign
Measure behaviour changes in relation to water usage and preservation and of other medical materials.
• Understand how communities use and perceive health and hygiene elements and provide effective communication regarding the delivery, use of health items and healthcare infrastructures use and maintenance.
• Minimise use of leaflets for awareness-raising where possible and use other means of awareness-raising such as social media, radio, TV, promoters, murals, community theatre, and similar. Test health messages to check that they are not being taken to extremes, especially where this might result in excessive disposal of useful items, overuse of alcohol or caustic cleaning agents instead of normal soaps, etc.
